On an official visit to Kenya, United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres indicated at a press briefing in the capital Nairobi that developed countries must help African countries adapt to the climate crisis.

As significant contributors to greenhouse gas emissions such as methane and carbon dioxide, industrialized countries must honor their financial commitments to help Africa overcome the negative consequences it is suffering because of the climate crisis.

Developed countries must help Africa become more resilient to climate change in this sense, as climate justice is crucial for global peace and stability.

To this end, Mr. Guterres called on developed countries to provide the $100 billion per year pledged to developing countries and contribute to the loss and damage fund agreed in Sharm el-Sheikh.

Mr. Guterres also called for support for Africa in decarbonizing key economic sectors such as energy.
