Kenya is currently facing a dire situation as relentless heavy rainfall wreaks havoc across the nation, leading to the loss of 44 lives and widespread destruction of property, as reported by the Kenya Red Cross Society (KRCS).

The downpours have significantly disrupted the daily lives of approximately 60,000 individuals, with particularly devastating effects observed in the Mathare slums of Nairobi, where residents, predominantly low-income earners, have been left stranded in their homes due to severe flooding following an overnight rainstorm.

In response to the crisis, Kenya’s domestic railroad operations have been halted, and several highways in affected areas have been temporarily shut down to mitigate further risks.

The Kenya Meteorological Department has issued warnings forecasting continued rainfall across various regions of the country, with heavy downpours anticipated shortly.

Kenya’s government has announced intensified emergency measures to address the widespread flooding occurring in different parts of the country, a consequence of the ongoing heavy rainfall.
