Voter Registration

The registration of voters in the Democratic Republic of Congo for the upcoming elections planned for the end of 2023 and 2024, including the presidential election of 20 December, is due to end on 11th April.

It should be noted that the registration operation for an estimated 49 million voters has been conducted by the Congolese Electoral Commission (Ceni) since 24 December.

However, civil society organizations are opposed to the end of this process in some parts of the East, notably in North Kivu and Ituri, where operations have been complicated by the security climate with the M23 and ADF rebellions.

This is why the Electoral Commission invited interested voters to go before 5 pm to the different centers of the third operational zone, although only 29% of voters in the third zone had been able to register about three weeks ago.

The same is true for North Kivu, Ituri, and other territories which have experienced a very low voter registration rate.

People will not only be prevented from voting in the upcoming elections but will also be unable to participate in parliament, as the distribution of seats in parliament will be based on the new electoral register.
