The Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company (DisCo) has announced a reduction in the tariff payable by its Band A customers to N206.80 per kilowatt-hour, down from the N225/kWh previously approved by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC).

In a statement issued by the spokesperson for IKEDC, Olufadeke Omo-Omorodion, the tariff adjustment for Band A customers will come into effect from Monday, May 6th, 2024.

The DisCo has assured Band A customers of a minimum of 20 hours of daily power supply through their feeders while clarifying that the tariffs for customers on other bands will remain unchanged.

“Dear Esteemed Customers, please be informed of the downward tariff review of our Band A feeders from N225/kWh to N206.80/kWh effective May 6, 2024, with guaranteed availability of 20-24hrs supply daily. The tariff for Bands B, C, D, and E remains unchanged,” stated IKEDC.

Recalling the recent revision by NERC on April 3, which increased the electricity tariff for Band A customers from N68 per kilowatt-hour to N255/kWh, it is noted that other customers were unaffected by the tariff adjustment.

Following the implementation of the supplementary Multi-Year Tariff Order, Band A consumers have expressed concerns about the financial burden imposed by the increased electricity tariffs, urging the Federal Government to reconsider the policy.

However, during an investigative hearing before the Senate Committee on Power last Monday, the Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, cautioned that failure to implement the electricity tariff adjustment could lead to a nationwide blackout within the next three months.
