The Lagos State government has initiated the removal of more than 100 shanties located beneath the Adeniji Adele under-bridge area in the state.

According to Tokunbo Wahab, the Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, the removal process began on Monday, as announced on X.com.

Wahab stated, “The joint task force comprising the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps #LAGESCOfficial (KAI) and Lagos State Environment and Special Offences team have commenced the removal of shanties and makeshift structures erected under Adeniji Adele bridge, following the expiration of the evacuation notice.”

Earlier, Tokunbo had disclosed that the eviction of over 100 shanties beneath the Adeniji Adele bridge would commence upon the expiration of a 48-hour notice served to occupants to vacate with their belongings.

Last week, the state government announced intensified efforts to apprehend suspected gang leaders who had leased out 86 apartments under the Dolphin Estate Bridge in Ikoyi.

Following a revelation by the state government, it was discovered that these apartments, partitioned into 86 rooms measuring 10×10 and 12×10, were being utilized as makeshift accommodations under the bridge. Tenants occupying these rooms reportedly pay an annual rent of N250,000 each.
