Moroccans Top The list of Foreigners with The Most Spanish Citizenship

Recent official data revealed that Moroccans topped the list of foreign residents who obtained Spanish citizenship at a rate of more than 55,000 in 2022.

The data issued by the report of the Spanish National Statistical Center indicated that Moroccans residing in Spain also excelled in “the rates of births obtaining Spanish nationality, at a rate of more than 23,000 births for the year 2022”.

The same report stated that it comes in the list after Moroccans who hold Spanish citizenship, citizens of Colombia at a rate of 11 thousand people, then Ecuador at a rate of more than ten thousand people who hold Spanish citizenship, along with each of the Dominican Republic, then Bolivia and Venezuela, in rates ranging between 8 thousand to 9 thousand people.

The same report revealed that in total more than 181,000 foreigners acquired Spanish nationality, an increase of 26 percent during the year 2022 compared to 2021 when their number reached 144,000.

Moroccans, according to the same data, obtain citizenship “during periods of residence, especially for minor children, under the year 2020, which is the same for other foreigners, bringing their percentages in terms of obtaining citizenship through periods of residence during the year 2022 in total to nearly 600,000 people”.
