In a statement of utmost importance, South Africa’s Foreign Minister, Naledi Pandor, expressed that the legal intricacies surrounding the potential engagement of Russian President Vladimir Putin in the forthcoming summit of the esteemed BRICS group of nations, scheduled for August, are presently under meticulous examination by the South African government.

In a development of significant gravity, the International Criminal Court (ICC) has formally issued an arrest warrant for President Vladimir Putin. As a member state of the ICC, South Africa finds itself in a predicament whereby it would potentially be obligated to apprehend President Putin should he choose to participate in the eminent BRICS heads of state summit, an assembly encompassing Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, scheduled to take place in Johannesburg.

In an exchange with members of the press, Foreign Minister Naledi Pandor elucidated that the final determination regarding President Vladimir Putin’s potential participation in the summit would ultimately lie with President Cyril Ramaphosa. Minister Pandor underscored that once a conclusive decision has been reached regarding Putin’s involvement, President Ramaphosa will assume the responsibility of delivering the definitive pronouncement on the matter.

Naledi Pandor affirmed that the South African government is actively exploring legal avenues about this matter. She emphasized that the final determination and disclosure would be most suitably addressed by President Cyril Ramaphosa once the deliberations have concluded. Minister Pandor further disclosed that invitations have been duly extended to all heads of state for the BRICS summit, indicating the inclusive approach being undertaken for this significant event.
