The Labour Party Presidential Campaign Council is standing firm on its statement that its presidential candidate, Peter Obi, will not be leaving Nigeria despite mounting pressure.

According to the council, those applying pressure are mischief makers trying to derail Obi from pursuing justice through the court.

The former Anambra State governor had previously claimed that he was being pressured to leave the country, with attacks against him coming from different quarters.

In response to the claims, the Chief Spokesperson of the Obi-Datti Campaign Council, Dr. Tanko Yunusa, released a statement on Thursday night insisting that Obi had no intention of leaving the country, regardless of the pressure on him and his family.

The statement highlighted the concerns for Obi’s safety and the intensifying pressure from sources allied to the APC and its agents in the security services.

The council also accused the APC of orchestrating a campaign of calumny to discredit and delegitimize Obi and compel him to abandon his right to seek redress in court.

The statement further called on Nigerians and the international community to caution the APC and the APC-led government to stop their nasty attacks.

The focus and commitment of Obi remain unchanged, according to the council, with his dedication to lawfully and peacefully retrieve their mandate to secure and unite the nation.

The council urged religious leaders, especially in the North, not to be part of the grand design of the state apparatus to further increase the religious and ethnic divide in the country. The statement also appealed to President Buhari to rein in his officials to prevent unnecessary crises in the country.
