In Ivory Coast, the office of Amnesty International calls for the “immediate and unconditional release” and “cancellation of the conviction” of 26 members of the PPA-CI. They were sentenced to two years in prison for “disturbing public order” after having accompanied one of the leaders of their political party to his summons to justice.

Amnesty International is demanding the release of 26 activists from the Party of African People – Ivory Coast (PPA-CI), the party of former President Laurent Gbagbo. All were sentenced Thursday, March 9 to two years in prison for “disturbing public order”.

A group of activists was apprehended and subjected to an arrest warrant while accompanying one of their party’s leaders to respond to a judicial summons.

According to Hervé Delmas Kokou, who serves as the executive director of Amnesty Côte d’Ivoire, this arrest contravenes the principles and ideals upheld by the nation.
