Earthquake in Morocco Leaves 1,037 Dead and 1,204 Injured Across Multiple Regions

The death toll from the earthquake, which occurred last night, Friday, and was centered in the municipality of Ighil in the region of Al-Hoceima, has risen to 1,037 deaths and 1,204 injuries, including 721 serious injuries, according to an updated tally by the Ministry of Interior as of 1:00 PM on Saturday, September 9.

The Ministry of Interior reported that the fatalities have affected 9 provinces and regions, with 542 deaths in the Al-Hoceima region, 321 in the Taroudant region, 103 in the Chichaoua region, 38 in the Ouarzazate region, and one case in Tinghir.

The source continued, “No new cases have been recorded in the provinces and regions of Marrakech, Azilal, Agadir Ida-Outanane, Greater Casablanca, and Youssoufia.”

Public authorities continue to mobilize all necessary human and logistical resources, including the deployment of specialized search and rescue teams. Meanwhile, healthcare facilities in the affected areas are fully mobilized to provide the necessary medical treatment.
