Climate Change: African Experts Meet to Develop early Warning System

A meeting focusing on climate change is being held from 19 to 20 April in Abidjan, to set up an early warning system and deploy rapid actions against the effects of climate change in Africa.

The gathering brings together African experts in meteorology and climatology and stakeholders from sectors impacted by climate change.

The meeting is part of the efforts of the Airport, aeronautical and meteorological operation and development company (SODEXAM), and the African Centre of Meteorological Applications for Development (ACMAD).

Intervening at the meeting, the representative of the African Union, Jolly Wasambo, pointed out that climate change is negatively impacting the objectives of Agenda 2063.

To address this, he called on states to take all necessary actions to reduce the effects of the climate crisis, while emphasizing the importance of infrastructure resilience.

For his part, the Director General of SODEXAM, Jean-Louis Moulot, stressed the fundamental role of national meteorological and hydrological services as official providers of early warning, which is an important element for the safety of people.
