The Kano State Government has refuted claims that journalist Naziru Idris Ya’u was injured by a stray bullet in the State House, as reported earlier.

In a statement released on Saturday by the Director General of Media and Publicity, Sanusi Tofa, the government clarified the circumstances surrounding the incident. Contrary to initial reports, the statement asserts that Ya’u sustained injuries from metal debris originating from an ongoing construction project at the Kano State Government House.

The incident, which occurred amidst a wave of misinformation, prompted widespread concern and speculation regarding the safety of journalists covering events at the government house. However, Tofa emphasized that the journalist was not hit by any stray bullet but rather encountered injuries due to the metal debris from the construction site, which had been barricaded for safety precautions.

The statement further highlights that the true nature of the incident was revealed following investigations conducted by medical personnel attached to the government house.

Earlier reports had suggested that Ya’u, a correspondent of Abubakar Rimi Television attached to the Kano State Government House, narrowly escaped harm after being hit by a stray bullet. However, the Kano State Government’s clarification provides a different perspective on the incident, attributing Ya’u’s injuries to the ongoing construction work rather than gunfire.

While there has been no official statement from either the Kano Government House or the State Police Command regarding the incident, the clarification from the state government aims to set the record straight and dispel any misconceptions surrounding the journalist’s injury.
