The City of Tshwane has announced that power has been fully restored to areas that were affected by the collapse of seven towers in Pretoria East. Mamelodi, which had been without power since Sunday due to the theft of metal at the base of the structures, was among the affected areas.

The city reported that power was entirely restored on Wednesday night, however, some areas are still encountering technical problems. The city is encouraging residents to report any crimes relating to infrastructure to decrease power outages.

In a statement, City of Tshwane spokesperson Selby Bokaba said, “The vandalism and theft of infrastructure are the main drivers of power outages in the city. The city would like to implore its residents, particularly in Mamelodi, to help the municipality by reporting suspicious activities they spot in and around the substations.”
