Dr. Imtiaaz Sooliman, the founder of the Gift of the Givers, stated that negotiations for Van Deventer’s release are ongoing and that they have offered to pay R500,000 for his safe return.
However, Sooliman also noted that in some instances, hostages have been released without any payment. The fact that Van Deventer was bought, rather than directly captured, maybe a factor in his potential release without payment.
According to Sooliman, the situation is complex and the negotiations are ongoing. He expressed hope that Van Deventer would soon be reunited with his family.
Speaking on the matter, Sooliman stated, “We are working around the clock. We are doing everything we can to bring him back home.”
