The army of the Democratic Republic of Congo has confirmed that it killed 20 ADF terrorists in North Kivu (East) on Saturday.

The ADF are rebels affiliated to the Islamic State group. They are accused of massacring and killing civilians in the region.

A statement from the spokesperson for the region’s army said that the 20 rebels were neutralised in Beni territory, after clashes between the DRC armed forces and the jihadists. The army was able to recover four AK47-type weapons.

Other elements of the ADF who fled to the forest of the Virunga National Park are still being pursued by the Ugandan army and the FARDC.

The Ugandan army has been conducting a joint operation with the Congolese army since 2021 to fight the ADF.
