Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov recently welcomed his counterpart from Sierra Leone, Timothy Kabba, to Moscow for discussions to bolster bilateral relations between the two nations.

During their meeting, Kabba extended congratulations to Russian President Vladimir Putin on his recent reelection victory and subsequent inauguration.

“I am honored to be here today to deepen and strengthen the cooperation between our countries. I would like to extend my heartfelt congratulations to President Vladimir Putin on his resounding victory and his inauguration today. I wish him and the Russian people continued prosperity.”

Lavrov described Sierra Leone as a longstanding and reliable partner for Russia in Africa. He outlined plans to expand diplomatic engagement by establishing new diplomatic missions across the African continent, with Freetown being a top priority for this year. Lavrov stressed the importance of translating decisions into tangible actions, signaling active steps toward this goal.

“We are planning to open new diplomatic missions across the African continent, including in Freetown. In Freetown, we aim to achieve this before the end of the year. All necessary decisions have been made, and now it is crucial to implement them. This is a practical task that we are actively working on.”

Additionally, the Russian minister underscored the potential for collaboration in the field of peaceful nuclear energy. This included discussions regarding the possibility of constructing a nuclear power plant in Sierra Leone.
