The collapse of a building under construction in George, South Africa, on Monday has resulted in at least 7 deaths. While several workers were rescued from the rubble, dozens more remain unaccounted for.

“Firstly, we conduct what we call a line analysis. You walk through the entire area to detect any possible cries from victims. We did indeed hear people shouting in the debris. So, that was the first point, then the dogs come in and perform a check. Once the dogs have identified a person, we have high-tech equipment that allows us to triangulate and locate where the victim is trapped, and from there, we begin to work. It’s very, very difficult when you’re working with jackhammers, drills, and that kind of thing,” said Colin Deiner, chief director of the Western Cape Disaster Management Services.

A total of 75 people were working on the construction site. The South African police have launched an investigation to determine the causes of the collapse.
