South African Deputy President Paul Mashatile said today that President Cyril Ramaphosa is committed to cooperating with authorities in the investigation of the theft of a large sum of foreign currency from his private farm Phala Phala.

Mashatile, who was appointed in March this year, said in response to oral questions in the National Assembly that the President had expressed his commitment to cooperate fully with all investigations.

He added that since investigations in the case are still ongoing, he does not have enough information to comment on the government’s efforts to fight crime and corruption.

He said that the law enforcement agencies investigating the Phala Phala case should be allowed to carry out their investigations.

Parliament this week rejected a request by the opposition Democratic Alliance (DA) to set up an ad hoc committee to investigate the Phala Phala scandal.
