Gabonese Transport Minister Brice Paillat resigned on March 16, 2023, to the country’s president, Ali Bongo Ondimba. No reason is given in the press release from the presidency published on Thursday.
This resignation comes a week after the sinking of the Esther Miracle ferry which left 21 dead and 16 missing on March 9, according to the latest reports. Three days of national mourning have just ended in Gabon where this tragedy has caused great emotion.
According to official sources, it should be noted that the number of fatalities resulting from the recent sinking of a ferry in Gabon has risen to six. Despite ongoing search and rescue operations, there are still 31 individuals who remain unaccounted for.
