The Maritime and River Ports Agency of Madagascar has released a statement reporting that a boat carrying 47 passengers capsized off Ankazomborona in the northern part of the country, resulting in the death of 22 individuals. The boat was attempting to reach the French island of Mayotte when the incident occurred.

The tragedy, which occurred on an unknown date, highlights the dangers of sea travel and the importance of adhering to safety regulations. The exact cause of the capsizing is yet to be determined, and investigations are ongoing. The authorities are working to identify the victims and inform their families.

The agency added that the boat capsized due to an accident that left 23 people dead, adding that 23 people were rescued.

A police officer said most of those rescued had fled to avoid being arrested.
