Nigeria’s two main opposition parties, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and the Labour Party (LP), have denounced “massive manipulation” of the presidential election results, calling for the annulment of the election. Other observers questioned the transparency of the election.

The opposition considers that the results made official by the Electoral Commission give a lead to the candidate Bola Tinubu, based on a partial count.

At a joint press conference, the opposition parties expressed their lack of confidence in the election process, demanding a re-run.

Despite some security incidents, more than 87 million voters cast their ballots on Saturday in a calm atmosphere to choose one of the 18 candidates who will be in charge of restoring the delicate situation in a country that suffers from violence by armed groups, a falling economy, and poverty.

Several anomalies have fuelled the opposition’s accusations of fraud by the ruling APC party.

These anomalies are mainly delays in the count and failures in the electronic transfer of results.
