A quarantine was put in place in the province of Kie-Ntem in Equatorial Guinea on Monday after the start of an epidemic of Marburg virus disease which killed nine people.

It affected nine people, who died from the mentioned virus, the number of deaths has not changed for five days since the government announced that it was investigating suspected cases of hemorrhagic fever and only three people with “mild symptoms” of the disease are isolated for the time being in a hospital in this area. sparsely populated and rural, bordering Gabon and Cameroon, said Mitoha Ondo’o Ayekaba.

Equatorial Guinea “declares today the health alert for a hemorrhagic fever of Marburg in the province of Kie-Ntem and in the neighboring district of Mongomo”, affirmed the minister.

A containment plan was also drawn up in close cooperation with the World Health Organization.

The Marburg virus is transmitted from bats to humans and by direct contact with the bodily fluids of infected people.
