Senegal’s former ambassador to Japan, Gabriel Alexandre Sar, was decorated on Wednesday in Dakar with the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Star, one of Japan’s highest distinctions, for “his contribution significant to the strengthening of bilateral relations” between Dakar and Tokyo, we learned from Japanese diplomatic sources.

The Senegalese diplomat received the honour during a ceremony held at the residence of the Japanese ambassador in Dakar, in the presence of the chief of protocol of the Senegalese presidency, Mamadou Ndiaye, Senegalese officials and representatives of JICA. , the Japanese international cooperation agency, reports a press release sent to the APS.

The Japanese Ambassador to Senegal, Izawa Osamu, expressed on this occasion his “great joy” to present this decoration to the recipient, “in recognition of your significant contribution to the strengthening of bilateral relations between Japan and Senegal, as well as between Japan and Africa”.

A distinction “amply deserved”, estimated the Japanese diplomat quoted by the press release. He sent his “warm congratulations” to Gabriel Alexandre Sar, accredited to Japan for almost 10 years, from December 2001 to July 2010.
