The Nigerian Correctional Service has announced its intention to publicly disclose the identities and photographs of inmates who escaped from the Medium Security Custodial Centre in Suleja, Niger State.

According to Adamu Duza, the spokesperson for the NCoS Federal Capital Territory Command, this decision was communicated to our correspondent on Thursday.

The incident occurred following relentless rainfall on Wednesday night, which caused significant damage to the Medium Security Custodial Centre in Suleja, Niger State. This resulted in extensive destruction to the facility and facilitated the escape of 118 inmates.

The heavy rainfall led to severe infrastructure damage at the custodial center, including breaches in the perimeter fence, enabling the inmates to flee. However, efforts by authorities have led to the recapture of 10 of the fleeing inmates.

Duza emphasized that the command is working in conjunction with other security agencies to locate and apprehend the remaining escaped inmates. He further stated that the details of these individuals would soon be made available to the public through the dissemination of their names and photographs.

Duza affirmed, “Our intelligence officers, alongside armed squadron officers, are collaborating with the Nigeria Police Force, DSS, and other security agencies to conduct thorough searches in nearby communities to locate the fleeing inmates.”

He added, “In due course, we will publish the names and photographs of the remaining escaped inmates.”
