A manhunt has been launched by the police after Transport Minister Sindisiwe Chikunga and two of her VIP protectors were ambushed and robbed on the N3 highway between Vosloorus and Heidelberg, near Johannesburg.
It is reported that the minister and her security detail had pulled over to change a punctured tyre in the early hours of Monday morning when three armed men emerged from nearby bushes and robbed them of two state firearms and personal belongings.
National police spokesperson Brigadier Athlenda Mathe has said that the involved members are receiving necessary support and counseling.
The minister has been provided with alternative resources while the police launch a manhunt to bring to book those responsible for this unprecedented attack.
