Uganda: President Museveni Announces a Very Ambitious Nuclear Project

This week, President Yoweri Museveni declared the initiation of the construction of two nuclear power plants through collaborative efforts with Russia and South Korea. Although scant information has been disclosed, the Head of State pledges the establishment of power plants yielding 7,000 and 8,400 megawatts, approximately totaling 15,000 MWe.

Yoweri Museveni was determined to ensure his neighboring nations received this information. Seizing the opportunity presented by a coffee summit held in Kampala, the long-standing Head of State, who has been in power since 1986, made a strategic announcement to approximately twenty African country delegations. He conveyed that Russia and South Korea are poised to collaboratively construct two nuclear power plants, marking Uganda’s inaugural venture into this domain, and collectively generating a formidable 15,000 megawatts (MWe) of power.
