Amidst thick fog on Thursday, four jet skis from Morocco transported irregular immigrants near Ceuta’s Juan XXIII Beach, barely a kilometer within Morocco’s waters.

Local Spanish Civil Guard units intercepted three immigrants, two in the water and one on land. The fourth eluded authorities.

Sources explained that jet skis take “two or three minutes” to reach this part of Ceuta’s coast from Morocco before retreating from Spanish waters.

Other boats and dense fog aided traffickers in evading both the Royal Moroccan Navy and the Spanish Civil Guard patrols.

In mid-July, 18 elite Guard members were sent to curb jet ski trafficking for people and drugs to Ceuta.

New regulations prohibit Ceuta’s jet skis from straying over two miles from the city’s coast or leaving Spanish waters.
