Russia Launches Its First Mission to the Moon Since 1976

Russia announced on Monday that it plans to launch a mission to the moon on Friday. This mission has faced several delays and will be the first of its kind in nearly 50 years.

The Russian Space Agency announced that a Soyuz rocket has been assembled to launch the Luna-25 landing vehicle for the first Russian flight to the moon since 1976. The launch is scheduled to take place on August 11 at 02:10:57 local time, which is 23:10:57 GMT on Thursday in Moscow.

According to Alexei Maslov, who is the head of the Verkhnebureinskyi district in the Khabarovsk region, the predicted (booster) fall zone includes the mouth of the Umalta, Ussamakh, Lepikan, Tastakh, Saganar rivers, as well as the area of the ferry crossing on the Bureya River. The residents of Shakhtinskyi will be evacuated in response to this. This information was shared on the Telegram messaging app.

Roscosmos has announced that the Luna-25 lander will be launched on a Soyuz-2 Fregat booster and become the first spacecraft to touch down on the South Pole of the moon.
