The Zoological Garden of Rabat has implemented actions aimed at ensuring the well-being of its animals during hot weather. Although the animal collection was chosen for its ability to adapt to the climatic conditions of Morocco, some species deserve more attention.

Saad Azizi, Head of Veterinary and Zoological Services, states that the technical teams of the National Zoological Garden of Rabat are implementing a series of measures to mitigate the impact of the heat wave on animals. These measures mainly concern mammals and birds and involve providing them with frozen meals in limited quantities, taking into account the specific diet of each animal to avoid potential side effects.

Animal parks almost all use the same methods to prevent their protection from suffering from high temperatures. The most fun is undoubtedly ice meals, in sticks or blocks depending on the size of the animal, and for all diets, fruit flavor, fish, or even chicken blood.

Oualid Zekaki, a zookeeper, takes great care of his furry and feathered animals, said “We use cooling techniques to take care of our animals. During the summer, when the heat is intense, we try as much as possible to provide them with ice blocks to cool the air, and we also shower some animals to protect them from high heat. Each animal has a natural habitat that suits it perfectly”.

The National Zoological Garden of Rabat (JZN), which has positioned itself as one of the major attractions of the cultural and tourist landscape of Morocco, is home to around 2,000 animals from nearly 190 species.

It also plays a crucial role in safeguarding rare and endangered wildlife, including Atlas lions.
