Meta Platforms, the parent company of Instagram, is preparing to launch Threads, a text-based conversation app that resembles Twitter. The release is scheduled for Thursday, according to information provided on Apple’s App Store. Threads will allow users to follow the same accounts they follow on Instagram and maintain their current usernames.

The introduction of Threads by Meta comes shortly after Elon Musk, the executive chair of Twitter, announced temporary limitations on the number of posts users can read on the social media platform. Musk’s decision, aimed at combating data scraping, has sparked a strong negative reaction from Twitter users.

Ad experts have expressed concerns that this move may undermine the authority of Twitter’s new CEO, Linda Yaccarino, who assumed the role just last month. Reuters reached out to Meta for comment on a potential launch on the Google Play Store, but no immediate response was received.

As the battle for users’ attention and engagement continues, the launch of Threads presents a new avenue for social media interaction. With its resemblance to Twitter and integration with Instagram, Threads has the potential to attract users who are seeking a different kind of conversation platform. It remains to be seen how this move by Meta will impact the competition between social media giants and reshape the dynamics of online communication.
