Local police in the US state of Ohio revealed that a two-year-old boy accidentally killed his eight-month-pregnant mother, after shooting her in the back with a loaded gun that was not stored in a safe place.
On the afternoon of June 16th, Laura Elg, 31, called for help, claiming that her son had fired a bullet at her home in Norwalk. Police Commissioner David Smith informed local media of the incident.
Still conscious when the police arrived, Laura explained that her son had managed to enter the usually locked master bedroom while she was doing laundry, and began playing with the weapon.
Smith told ABC’s News 5 Cleveland that the victim “explained that she was 33 weeks pregnant and that her two-year-old child had accidentally shot her in the back with a gun.”
The police chief confirmed that despite the rapid emergency intervention, the mother died in the hospital without the possibility of saving the child.
Police discovered a 9mm handgun on the bedside table along with two other loaded firearms. The victim’s husband, who was out of the house when the incident occurred, stated that the weapons were his.
