Russian missiles were launched at Kyiv on Friday, with at least one explosion heard, according to Vitali Klitschko, the mayor of the Ukrainian capital, coinciding with the visit of an African delegation to Ukraine to mediate the conflict.

Klitschko reported on Telegram, “Explosion in the capital in the Podil district. The missiles are still flying towards Kyiv.” Alarm sirens blared, and reporters from the French Press Agency (AFP) heard the sound of explosions.

On Friday, the African leaders’ delegation, including Cyril Ramaphosa, the President of South Africa, headed to the city of Bucha, which witnessed a massacre of civilians attributed to the Russian army last year.

The Presidency of South Africa tweeted, along with video footage showing some of the movements of the African leaders, that President Ramaphosa and other African heads of state and government participating in the peace mission are in the city of Bucha.
