Tanzania Salutes China and UNESCO for Their Support for Higher Education in Africa

On Tuesday, the Tanzanian government expressed its gratitude to the Chinese government and the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) for continuing to support the development of higher technical education in Africa.

The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Dar es Salaam, William-Andey Lazaro Anangisye, representing Carolyne Nombo, Permanent Secretary of the Tanzanian Ministry of Education, Science, and Technology, said that China and UNESCO had worked together to support the development of higher technical education in Africa.

At the opening of the three-day annual meeting for Phase III of the UNESCO-China Funds-in-Trust Project (CFIT III) at the University of Dar es Salaam, Mr. Anangisye noted that the project aimed to strengthen the capacity of higher education institutions to develop labor market-oriented-education and skills-based learning and to strengthen links between universities and industry.

The project has a total budget of US$7.5 million and is being implemented over four years in Ivory Coast, Ethiopia, Gabon, Senegal, Tanzania, and Uganda.

UNESCO’s representative in Tanzania, Michel Toto, pointed out that in Tanzania, the University of Dar es Salaam and the Mbeya University of Science and Technology were direct beneficiaries of the CFIT III project.

For her part, the Chinese ambassador to Tanzania, Chen Mingjian, declared that according to the Dakar Action Plan (2022-2024) adopted at the 8th ministerial conference of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC), the CFIT III project had been a success and had achieved significant results.
