In the ongoing investigation surrounding convicted rapist and murderer Thabo Bester’s escape, another suspect has been apprehended, bringing the total number of arrests to nine.

The latest arrest involves a 31-year-old Zimbabwean national, who was recently linked to the controversial case. Police spokesperson Athlenda Mathe confirmed that the suspect was taken into custody on Sunday morning in Johannesburg. Initially, the suspect is charged with assisting an inmate’s escape from lawful custody, but additional charges are likely to follow. So far, nine individuals have been arrested in connection with the case.

The suspect was scheduled to appear in the Bloemfontein Magistrate Court on Tuesday. Mathe indicated that further arrests in the case cannot be ruled out.

Thabo Bester, along with his alleged accomplice Nandipha Magudumana, was recaptured in Tanzania in April after escaping from the Mangaung Correctional Centre in the Free State last year. The ongoing investigation aims to shed light on the circumstances and individuals involved in Bester’s escape.
