The EACC revealed two corruption scandals within a week, one in a public agency and another in the health sector. They pointed to rampant corruption and dishonest behavior that happened mainly during the establishment of projects.

45% of contractors surveyed admitted that they often paid additional fees or gave gifts to expedite their projects. This report cites several examples of this, such as favoritism during calls for tenders, inflation of costs, and even payment of bribes which can reach up to the equivalent of 20,000 euros.

This report comes as a second scandal erupts in the health sector. KEMSA, the Medical Equipment Purchasing Agency, is accused of corruption in connection with a mosquito net distribution contract. The companies selected during the call for tenders did not meet the criteria, while those that did were rejected according to the Kenyan press.

Faced with these suspicions of corruption, the Global Fund, which financed the project, canceled its contract. The Deputy Secretary of State for Public Health has been dismissed, as well as the entire Management Committee and the CEO of KEMSA.
