Zambian President Hakainde Hichilema has called on African countries to fight extremism and terrorism. He made the statement at the start of a conference organized by the Africa Centre for Strategic Studies in the Zambian capital Lusaka.

The conference, which brings together participants from 16 African countries, aims to discuss ways to manage peace and stability, as well as the fundamental relationship between these factors and the economic sustainability of African countries.

The president said that these two phenomena that give rise to instability could hamper Africa’s efforts to accelerate its economic development.

In this regard, Hakainde Hichilema stressed that governments must ensure that peace and stability are maintained so that economic programs are not disrupted.

The Zambian president urged participants to pool efforts to ensure peace on the continent by improving intelligence and information-sharing capabilities in Africa to manage security challenges.

The head of state also stressed that improving the situation in Africa requires strong political leadership.
