General Jeff Nyagah, commander of the East African Community (EAC) regional force, tendered his resignation on April 27th, 2023. Deployed in the eastern part of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), this force is supposed to fight armed groups.
The Kenyan is highly criticized by Kinshasa, which accuses him of a certain laxity vis-à-vis the M23 movement. In his resignation letter, the officer believes that he is the victim of a demonization campaign. He also points out that his safety is no longer guaranteed. Neither the EAC nor Kinshasa has yet reacted to this resignation.
