African countries are called upon to consolidate the progress made in Africa through immunization, said the Director General of the African Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC Africa), Jean Kaseya.

Jean Kaseya was appointed DG of CDC Africa by the African Union (AU) Assembly last February.

The official stressed in a statement the need to strengthen their immunization programs to capitalize on recent gains.

Mr. Kaseya noted that African countries need to ensure that no child is missed out on immunization, given the importance of immunization in saving lives and avoiding serious diseases and epidemics.

The official said efforts must be intensified to enable children who do not receive routine immunization to benefit from immunization, citing especially children living in remote communities and conflict-prone populations.

Mr. Kaseya said that the African continent can achieve good health outcomes if it can reach remote communities.
