In the south-east of the Central African Republic, in the province of Haut-Mbomou, clashes between a self-defense militia named Azande ani kpi Gbe on April 22nd and 23rd, 2023 opposed South-Soundanese soldiers who had crossed the border. No report is available but the fighting left both sides dead and injured. Fighting against a backdrop of local tensions in this region controlled since 2016 by the rebels of the Unit for Peace in the Central African Republic.

In the southeast of the Central African Republic, fighting this weekend pitted a recently formed local self-defense militia against South Sudanese soldiers who crossed the border near the town of Bambouti, in the province of Haut- Mbomo.

No official communication has been made from either side.

These fights illustrate a renewed tension in this extremely isolated area that had been controlled for several years by the rebels of the Unit for Peace in the Central African Republic (UPC).

On April 22nd and then April 23rd, 2023, soldiers from the South Sudan army entered the Central African Republic to attack positions of the Azande ani kpi Gbe group, whose name means in French “Many Zandés are dead”.
