Mali: Several Attacks by Suspected Jihadists in Sévaré, in the Center of the Country

In Mali, suspected jihadists carried out several attacks this Saturday, April 22nd in the Malian locality of Sévaré, located in the center of the country. The most daring attack was launched against Sévaré airport and “the military camp of the Russians”, “instructors”, according to Bamako, and “Russian mercenaries” of the Wagner group, according to several Western countries including the United States. This camp is located right next to Sévaré airport.

The first explosion was heard in Sévaré, this Saturday, around 5:30 UT, a car bomb according to sources.

Three more loud explosions followed. They were heard as far as Mopti, a town 15 km away. Then, towards the airport of the city of Sévaré, a contiguous sound of gunfire and heavy machine guns was heard.

Different sources confide that dozens of jihadists subsequently tried to take control of the airport and head, right next to it, towards a military camp which, according to our sources, houses Russian soldiers, “instructors “, according to Bamako, “mercenaries of the Wagner group”, according to several Western countries including the United States.

The jihadists will meet, on their way, the blue helmets of the Minusma whose headquarters is in Sévaré which extends over 4 hectares and which adjoins the same airport of Sévaré. The attackers will not be able to pass, the UN soldiers of Senegalese nationality have prevented their progress.
