The Elysée announced that the nine former Senegalese riflemen wishing to return to Senegal thanks to financial aid from the French state, will travel to Dakar on 28th April, where they will be welcomed by the Senegalese authorities and the French embassy in Senegal.

The same source indicated that a republican ceremony will be organized at the residence of the French diplomatic representation in Dakar.

The French president, Emmanuel Macron, received the former Tirailleurs on Friday, insisting on the importance of continuing the memorial work in Senegalese schools and among the youth in general.

Indeed, the nine former Riflemen have been visiting schools in Seine-Saint-Denis for years, carrying out important work on memory.

These former Tirailleurs, aged between 85 and 96, were among the 22 who came forward to return to Senegal after the release of Omar Sy’s film Les Tirailleurs.
