A new opposition coalition called the Alliance for Democratic Change in 2026 (2AD2026), was officially launched on Thursday, the 13th of April. As part of this coalition, three formations have been brought together, including the Rally for Democracy and Development (RDD) of former President Jacques Joachim Yhomby Opango. Initially, this alliance stated that it wished to work to change power, while President Denis Sassou-Nguesso could run for a fifth term in 2026 if he so desired.

Jean-Jacques Serge Yhomby Opango, vice-president of the RDD, signed the declaration creating this platform in front of an audience of activists in the prefecture of Brazzaville. “We intend to make our Alliance the presidential movement in 2026. The people are with us. The goal is a political alternative in 2026 because the country is going down the drain,” he said.

Destin Gavet of the Republican Movement (MR) was brought to a head this platform for six months. It presents the strategies of the coalition. “As a result of this Alliance, we will be able to solve the problems that undermine our country during elections, in particular, issues concerning electoral governance and the need to clean up the electoral register. This structure was put in place to address these issues jointly.”
