A horrific attack has occurred in the peaceful community of Mgban, located in the Nyiev council ward of the Guma Local Government Area in Benue State. Suspected herders descended upon a primary school, where innocent individuals had sought refuge, unleashing unspeakable violence that claimed the lives of at least 34 people. The tragedy struck in the late hours of Friday, between 9 and 10 pm, leaving the community reeling in shock and mourning.

According to Christopher Waku, the security officer of the local government who spoke on behalf of the Chairman of the LGA, Mike Aba, the attack was described as genocide.

Speaking from the scene of the incident, Waku said that 24 corpses were found in the classrooms where the residents were taking refuge, while 10 corpses were found on the road indicating they were trying to escape when they were hit by bullets.

The State Command Spokesperson, Catherine Anene confirmed the attack but has asked for more time to gather additional details.

This tragic incident is another reminder of the ongoing conflict between herders and farmers in Nigeria and the need for authorities to take more proactive measures to protect innocent civilians caught in the crossfire.
