The Togolese population stands at 8,095,498 inhabitants, according to the results of the last population census, carried out from October 23 to November 16, 2022. These data were published on Tuesday, April 4 in Lomé by the authorities of the territorial administration, showing an annual increase of 2.3% compared to the 2010 count: at this rate, it could double in 31 years.

This is the fifth census of the population in Togo, after those of 1960, 1970, 1981, and 2010. According to the Minister of Territorial Administration Payadowa Boukpessi, who made the data public, it made it possible to identify all the people living in the territory, their age, sex, and nationality.

Thus, after the count, processing, and analysis work, the results reveal that in 2022, the Togolese population is 8,095,498 inhabitants, showing an increase of nearly two million inhabitants, i.e. an annual increase of 2.3% compared to 2010, when 6,191,155 people living on Togolese territory were registered.

According to data released on Tuesday, Togo has 3,944,510 men and 4,150,988 women, representing 51.3% of the population. 43% of people surveyed live in urban areas compared to 57% in rural areas.
