The Senegalese celebrated this Tuesday the 63rd anniversary of the country’s independence on April 4. This year, the country returned to the tradition of a large civil and military parade in Dakar after three years of a “minimum” ceremony due to the Covid-19 pandemic and construction in the capital.

The emblematic Place de la Nation, in the heart of the capital, is decorated in national green-yellow-red colors. It was the civilians, majorettes, and students, who opened the ball before the parade of all the military detachments on the General Boulevard of “Gaulle”. Some 4,000 staff from the defense and security forces, their vehicles, several formations of combat planes and helicopters in a foggy sky, and in the procession the presentation of the future BRT, the Bus Rapid Transit, which should improve mobility between Dakar and its suburbs.

It was therefore a great “impeccable” parade, according to President Macky Sall who praised “the level of preparation of the armies to face threats and ensure security and peace in the country”.
