Gabonese President Ali Bongo spoke for the first time about the serious stroke that almost ended his life in October 2018 to supporters of his party, highlighting the role that His Majesty King Mohammed VI played in saving his life after he was transferred from Riyadh in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to Rabat.

The French Radio International correspondent reported about him: “My brother, the king, did everything for me when we left from Saudi Arabia to Morocco.” And Ali Bongo continued: “That morning, I held meetings with heads of state, everything was fine, after that I found myself alone After everyone went down, I completely lost consciousness and I no longer remember what happened.”

He added, “I know that I asked to call a doctor, and as soon as he arrived, I passed out until the last day of my stay in Saudi Arabia, then we left for Morocco, and as soon as we arrived, His Majesty did everything for me.”

Bongo suffered a serious stroke while attending an economic forum in Saudi Arabia on October 14, 2018. Bongo, 59, left Rabat Hospital, about a month and a half after the accident.

His Majesty King Mohammed VI visited him in the military hospital in Rabat, where he expressed his satisfaction at the improvement of his health. Bongo assumed the presidency of the oil-rich African country in 2009, after the departure of his father, Omar Bongo, who had ruled the country since 1967.
