British Home Secretary Suella Braverman visited Kigali on Saturday as part of a two-day visit to speed up the implementation of a migration agreement.

The agreement aims at deporting migrants arriving by boat in the UK, knowing that the latter has paid 170 million dollars to Rwanda under this agreement.

Before her departure, Suella Braverman said the UK-Rwanda partnership on migration is an innovative approach that will have a powerful effect on illegal travel, including small boat crossings.

Criticising the agreement, human rights organisations say it is immoral to send people to a country “notorious for allegations of assigning government opponents”.

It should be noted that no migrants have yet been sent to Rwanda.
