An explosion rocked a Roodepoort substation belonging to Joburg City Power, On Sunday morning, Cable thieves were identified as the culprits behind the incident at the Peter Road substation, which resulted in significant damage that is currently being evaluated.

The power company has experienced increasing levels of cable theft and has called for stronger security measures from law enforcement agencies.

Isaac Mangena, a representative of City Power, explained that the theft of a cable on Johan Road caused the failure of two major substations, including Christian de Wet and Peter Road.

According to Mangena, the company cannot yet provide a timeframe for when the affected areas will have their power restored.
