An agreement reached in Sudan late last year to make a gradual transfer of power to civilian leaders angered citizens who came out on Tuesday to protest and demand the rejection of the deal.

There were clashes between the protesters and riot police, who tried to maintain order by firing tear gas at the protesters.

Since the military coup on 25 October 2021, similar demonstrations have taken place. The demonstrators were campaigning for democracy, national sovereignty, social justice and freedom, security, health, and the right to education.

These demonstrators are for civilian rule, not military rule. In fact, Tuesday’s demonstration was led by the Resistance Committees, a group that opposes military negotiations with Sudanese military leaders.
