The South African authorities have distributed food to citizens affected by the recent bad weather in the country, especially in the North East.

The bad weather linked to the recent rains has hampered people’s access to food and basic necessities. This is the case for the inhabitants of Meke Meke village in Mpumalanga province, the worst affected region.

The government’s distribution operation was carried out in collaboration with Gift of the Givers, a local NGO, and the Red Cross, which ensured the delivery of food to needy villages.

In this context, Phindile Pertunia Magagula, mayor of the municipality of Nkomazi, explained the damages that the country endured due to the bad weather. Indeed, several bridges were washed away by the rains and about 1815 families are homeless after their houses were washed away by the rains.
